1972 Boneville NY Speed Run Photos : Jim Charzuk
The Factory Speed Runs
Once again we are being treated to some truly priceless images.
Jim Charzuk submitted these pics that he too back in the day of the snowmobile Speed Run frenzy.
Jim says that if memory serves him correctly , the pics were taken just south of Boonville , NY in the early 70's.
Thanks for the great photos , Jim !

The ticket to a day of snowmobile racing history.

Lets start with some shots of the now legendary Boss Cats

Now from the Bombardier camp :
The Ski Doo Inferno & X-2R speed run sleds.

Below is Tony Fox's entry into the speed run wars,
"The Green Monster"
This was an actual dragster with skis attached & tracks bonded to the racing slicks on back.
Developed & driven by Ky Michaelson of Sno Pony Sonic Challenger fame.

As it turns out James told his brother , a retired professional photographer, about submitting the images to RetroSno and was promptly sent the images that appear below.
I cannot emphasize enough how fortunate we are that the Charzuk brothers have chosen to share the pictures they've preserved for over 3 decades. Now...Get a good grip on the keyboard.
What we have here are never before seen images of :
Boss Cat I
&
The Polaris X-2
According to Jim's brother , the pics were taken in February of 1971
Enjoy !

Check out the "no frills" paint job.

I wouldn't have bought a dually pick up if I'd known you do the same thing with a Ford Country Squire wagon.

It appears the "Fashion Police" had the day off.

Suppose these people had any idea they were witnessing history in the making ?

As it turns out , that fire extinguisher wasn't quite up to the task.

These events were serious business to the manufacturers of the day.

The Polaris X-2

Hood off & hard at work.

Doesn't look like they were real worried about scratching the paint.

It's really amazing that we survived the clothing of the '70's

What it was all about.
The hopes that this trophy and the attatched bragging rights would tranlate into sales on the dealership showroom floor.

Jim writes that this photo is of :
" ..some local gearheads who thought it would be a good idea to strap a 669 Rotax on a square tube frame. The officials let them run , but it was too light on the front to compete."
Love those coils under the leaf springs.

Jim also included photos from the oval races at Boonville in 1972.
Enjoy !

Thank you again to the Charzuk family for letting us into their archives.
