Don Amber's I 500 pics
Priceless I-500 pics !!!
An unexpected Christmas gift arrived via email last night.
Every once in a great while , images are submitted that are just plain spectacular. Don Amber has provided us with some memories from his racing days.
It's best that Don tell the story from here :
" In 1975 my team and I represented Northeast Indiana John Deere Dealers in the Winnipeg-StPaul I-500. We were unfortunately not a finsher as someone moved the trail markers sending us quite a distance off course and causing us to cross the finish line after the alloted time. I came back to Indiana quite disgruntled and put the 340/S away only to get it back out about two years ago when I sold it. A year or so ago I found these
pictures (they actually were slides) and a friend converted them into a CD. There's a lot of them and you can use any or all if you wish. "

Pre race activity in the sled impound area. Morning of day 2.
Among the John Deere's you can see a Ski Doo T'nT F/A and a '75 Sno Jet SST F/A. The Sno Jet is most likely the one driven by David & Ian Corbett.

My guess is that this pic sums up the life of a cross country racer in the mid-1970's

John Deere set the benchmark for all the other manufacturers involved in cross country racing throughout the late 1970's.
